I keep waiting for something that will change my life. It’s true that it needs to be me. I should be more present & rooted in my everyday. I'm so afraid of the future that l refuse to commit to anything, even in the here & now. I know I can’t go on like this. I need to choose what I want before time chooses for me.

Two ducks on the pond today, the gleaming, deep green of their feathers only apparent at certain angles. Serene until they decide to dunk, roll, shake.
Sat on a low chair in the grass with the clouds - huge & slow-moving - to keep the sun off; the wind flipping the pages of my book.
Nearby, the ducks come to shore, rooting in the grass and running tall stalks through their beaks, their tails shaking joyfully.

I saw a little cat under the little tree, its ears perked & its head turned away from me. The sun was still up, but stuck behind the house, so the small patch of yard was shaded gently.
I thought it must be nice to be a little cat under a little tree, shaded from the sun & watching some bird or bug flit by me.

A wave of wind through the trees before the rain. I watch the leaves swirl down in a veil of color.
When the rain comes, it rushes. You can hear it move closer; a growing murmuration of droplets drawing in around you.
